Cricket Australia came down hard on the Trio.

Cricket Australia has turned up firmly, taking the ball tempering scandal seriously, CA has banned captain Smith and Vice-Captain Warner for 12 months.

Cameron Bancroft, who admitted to change the condition of the ball with yellow sandpaper, has been banned for 9 months.

James Sutherland (CEO, Cricket Australia) mentioned that, Warner is found responsible for the “development of a plan to attempt to artificially alter the condition of the ball”, and “instruction to a junior player to carry out a plan”

David Warner, charged for advising junior player Bancroft to tamper the ball, “including demonstrating how it could be done”.

Warner has been also found misleading Newlands officials by hiding his knowledge and involvement in the scandal and not voluntarily reporting it to the officials.

Skipper, Steve Smith has been found guilty for knowing of the plan beforehand and not taking the preventive measures. Also, it was the skipper only who directed “that evidence of attempt tampering be concealed on the field of play” which means, it was Smith who asked Bancroft to hide the sandpaper in his underpants. Smith was also found to “misled match officials regarding his teammate’s attempt of artificially changing the condition of the ball”.

Cameron Bancroft, the most junior member of the playing XI has been charged for being a member of the conspiracy and carrying out Warner’s plan to tamper the ball and following Smith’s direction to mislead the officials about the whole drama and also for his own lies to officials and public.

According to reports, Warner will never be given any leadership role in his career whereas Smith and Bancroft will have to wait for atleast 12 months after their ban for any leadership role.
The offending trio are banned from all international cricket and domestic cricket in Australia, but can still play and are encouraged to return to club level to help re-connect with the cricket community.
